bonobo LLCは、役目を終えたアンティーク着物をアップサイクルして新たな価値を創造する “ikasu”を展開しています。このたび、ikasuは、日本の出展社として、World Art Dubaiに出展致します。
以下は、出展する作品の一部です。
着物マイスター資格を持ち、クリエイティブディレクターとしても活躍する外国人アーティスト Lena Okamotoが、膨大な時間をかけ日本全国を回り、作品へ生まれ変わらせるアンティーク着物を厳選して、作品を制作しています。額にはアンティークの桐たんすを活かすなど、オールアップサイクルを目指しています。
日本以外でも、アメリカ、イギリス、ドイツ、スイス、オランダ、ベルギー、スペイン、ポルトガル、スウェーデン、シンガポール、イスラエル、ルーマニア、フィリピン、マレーシア、UAE、中国など、20カ国以上の家や店舗でご愛好頂いています。

World Art Dubai（ワールドアートドバイ）は、中東最大規模のアートフェアで、65カ国から400以上のアーティストやギャラリーが10,000点以上の作品を展示します。4日間で11,000以上のアートファンが訪れます。

■ ikasuとは
着物に第二の人生を。
日本の家庭には膨大な着物や帯が眠っていると言われています。しかしながら、着る機会もなく、お手入れが大変で保管スペースも必要なため、次世代に渡らず廃棄する家庭が増えています。ikasuは、着物や帯はただの服ではなく、持ち主の大切な思い出であり、着物作家の素敵な作品であり、日本の誇る伝統文化であるという考え方で、着物を生かしたいと強く思いながら作品制作に取り組んでおります。
着物は「着る芸術」とも言われており、日本の伝統的な技術で、一つ一つ手作業で、織り・染色・刺繍・装飾された一点ものの芸術品です。ikasuはその一点一点の作品が持つ、歴史、技術、文様、物語を受け継ぎ、尊重しながら、現代空間に似合うアート作品として生まれ変わらせます。

World Art Dubai 2024
bonobo LLC is developing ‘ikasu’, which creates new value by upcycling antique kimonos that have outlived their usefulness as clothing. ikasu will be exhibiting at World Art Dubai as a Japanese exhibitor.
The artist Lena Okamoto, who holds a KIMONO meister certification and is also active as a creative director, spends a great deal of time visiting all over Japan and carefully selects antique kimonos to be reborn as works of art. The aim is to create all upcycled pieces, for example by utilising antique paulownia wood chests for frames.
Outside of Japan, our artwork have been enjoyed in homes and shops in more than 20 countries, including the USA, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Singapore, Israel, Romania, the Philippines, Malaysia, the UAE, China and many more.

■ What is World Art Dubai?
World Art Dubai is the largest art fair in the Middle East, showcasing more than 10,000 artworks by over 400 artists and galleries from 65 countries, attracting over 11,000 art lovers over four days.
It attracts artists, galleries, collectors and art enthusiasts from all over the world and serves as a platform for contemporary art to come together. A diverse range of artworks will be on display, including paintings, sculptures, photography, digital art and mixed media works.

■ About ikasu
Giving kimonos a second life.
It is said that almost every household in Japan has kimonos and obis stored away. However, due to a lack of opportunities to wear them, the need for maintenance, and the space required to store them, more families are choosing to discard them instead of passing them on to the next generation.
ikasu strongly believes that kimonos and obis are not just clothing but cherished memories of their owners, beautiful creations of kimono artists, and a proud part of Japan’s traditional culture. With this belief, we are dedicated to giving kimonos new life through our artworks.
Kimonos are often referred to as "wearable art," made using traditional Japanese techniques, with each one meticulously woven, dyed, embroidered, and decorated by hand. "ikasu" takes these one-of-a-kind works, respecting their history, craftsmanship, patterns, and stories, and transforms them into art pieces that shine even more in modern spaces.
